Football Team Conducting Fund Raiser for Student-Athlete Fighting Cancer

The last game the Dundy County Stratton football team lost was in the 2018 Class D1 State Quarter-Finals to North Central, a cooperative high school team in Bassett.
One of the players on the North Central team, Zak Palmer, was diagnosed with leukemia in late May, just days after placing third with a best effort of 44-feet-.75-inches at the NSAA State Track meet in the triple jump.
At the present time Palmer is undergoing a bone marrow transplant and the North Central cooperative communities have held fund raisers.
DCS Head Football Coach Mike Spargo said his team heard about Palmer’s health issues and they wanted to do something.  “Because we played them last year and are familiar with them, we wanted to help his family out,” said Coach Spargo. “I know what people did for my family when my daughter Abby (Abigael) had her stroke and so we just kind of wanted to do the same thing for them.”
The Tiger football team put Palmer’s number on a DCS helmet, the DCS players signed the helmet, and they are sending it up to him.  The team is also conducting a 50/50 cash raffle and also a raffle for two Denver Broncos Club Level seating tickets to the Dec. 22 game against Detroit Lions. The tickets were donated to the cause.   Raffle tickets will be available during this Friday night’s Homecoming game against Hitchcock County.  The drawing will be held Friday night.    All the proceeds from the raffle will go to Palmer’s family.
A Caring Bridge website has also been set up for Zak Palmer. The site can be reached through www.caringbridge.org.
