DCS Tigers Run Past Bobcats, Move to Second Round

          The cold temperatures and piles of snow around the DCS football field 0n Halloween night, didn’t chill the spirits of the Dundy County Stratton Tigers football team for their first round Class D1 Playoff game against the Hemingford Bobcats Thursday night.

          DCS jumped on top first with a 51-yard run by DCS quarterback Quade Myers on a fourth down play at the 9:46 mark of the first quarter.  With a 6-0 lead, DCS’ defense forced the Bobcats to punt and DCS got the ball ball back at their 15-yard line.    Heming

ford’s defense then came up big, forcing and recovering a fumble by Myers at the 10-yard line.  The Bobcats tied the game at 6, two plays later on a 7-yard touchdown run with 3:38 left in the quarter. 

     The Tigers took then got the lead back on a long 55-yard run by running back Serbando Diaz with 2:32 left in the first period.  The two-point conversion failed and the Tigers lead 12-6. 

     Hemingford then put a good drive together and had first down on the Tigers goal line.  The Tigers defense stuffed the Bobcats on their first three runs. Then on forth and goal from the 1-inch line, Hemingford pushed across the goal line to tie the game at 12-12. 

     The Tigers took control of the game from there.  DCS regained the lead with 8:31 left before halftime on a 9-yard run by Myers.  DCS added another touchdown on a 15-yard run by Corbin Horner with 4:19 left in the second period.  DCS went into to halftime with a 26-12 lead.

     Defenses controlled much of the third quarter, but the Tigers added to their lead with 1:37 left in the period on a 25-yard run by Myers.  DCS then recovered a fumble by Hemingford on the kickoff. The Tigers offense scored again with 1:21 left in the third quarter on a 23-yard run by Diaz to take a 42-12 lead.   The Tigers added one more touchdown midway through the fourth quarter on a 3-yard pass from Myers to Dominic Sis to cap off the 50 to 12 win.

     The Tigers move on the second round of the Class D1 playoffs with a tough road game against an 8-1 Fullerton team who also won their first round game Thursday night.  DCS and Fullerton are scheduled to kickoff at 6PM (CT) on Wednesday night.
