Area Agencies to Host Information Meeting on Conservation Reserve Program

Local USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices along with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Nebraska Game and Parks and Pheasants Forever is hosting a joint information meeting to review the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and discuss the application process. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21st at the Mid Plains Community College in Imperial. It will begin at 11:00 am.

 

FSA offices across Nebraska currently are accepting applications for CRP. The deadline for landowners to submit an application for general CRP is Feb. 28, 2020, while signup for continuous CRP will be ongoing.

 

Dundy County FSA Executive Director Linda Robb said farmers and ranchers who enroll in CRP receive a yearly rental payment for voluntarily establishing long-term, resource-conserving plant species, such as approved grasses or trees (known as “covers”) to control soil erosion, improve water quality and develop wildlife habitat on marginally productive agricultural lands.

During the meeting speakers will cover CRP practice options, land eligibility criteria and updated soil rental rates, among other items. All area landowners interested in CRP are invited to attend this free event.
