Hitchcock County FFA Greenhouse is Open

Many Hitchcock County residents are ready for warmer weather and the opportunity to get their gardens planted. The Hitchcock County High School FFA student organization can help.
For the second year the FFA group has their greenhouse open in Trenton and it is full of vegetable and flowering plants. They opened for the season on Wednesday.
Katelyn Day, Hitchcock County Agriculture teacher and FFA Sponsor said the greenhouse provides their FFA chapter’s income for the entire school year. Profits from the greenhouse pays for lunches when the students go to contests and helps cover expenses when they go to the State FFA event.
With school having been closed the greenhouse has been getting ready with the help of other school teachers, para educators, and office staff.
They are also running the greenhouse a little different . They are offering pack’s of plants to help move things faster in the greenhouse due to not having their normal operating season and “operators” or students to help.
The greenhouse will have two people working at all times for sales. Due to the ongoing social distancing practices shopping will be limited to four people shopping at a time to meet the six-foot
social distancing criteria. Curbside delivery is available if you call ahead.
In addition for those over 65 who live in Trenton and Culbertson and want to stay home, but would like some plants, delivery is available. Please contact Katelyn Day at 308-737-7222 between the hours of 9am and 5pm to make an order. Please call the day before you would like the plants delivered. They will deliver the plants if they can arrange a place for customers to leave the money before they leave the plants. The greenhouse has 51 different plants to choose from and include everything from full shade, to partial shade, to full sun and are hand picked for the southwest Nebraska climate. They also have some hanging baskets for sale.
The complete selection of plants can be viewed by going to the Hitchcock County School web page and clicking on the Greenhouse information listing. More information can also be found on the Hitchcock County FFA Greenhouse Facebook Page.
Support your local students and visit the greenhouse.
The greenhouse is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4pm to 6pm and on Saturdays form 11am to 3pm.
