Dundy County Fair Events Still in Question

There will be a Dundy County Fair the last week in July, but what activities will be held is the question.

Kimberly Cook, the 4-H Youth Development Extension Educator for Dundy, Hitchcock, and Hayes Counties, says the 4H animal shows, activities, and exhibit halls are expected to be held.

“There will be a few changes due to health directives,” she said. “We will follow health di- rectives and adapt as new direc- tives are given. The process of planning the county fair is an ongoing process and subject to change at the last minute.”

No final decision has been made in regards to the Dundy County Ag Society fair activities or the Benkelman Lion’s Club Home Owned Carnival. Jared Stamm, Ag Society President, said the board is planning to make a decision about the Ag Society’s fair activities that include the rodeo, car races, mud volleyball, concert, and parade at their meeting on July 1. “Right now we are a go, but we have to wait to find out what the Southwest Nebraska Public

Health Department (SWNPHD) will allow us to do.” He said they are hoping that by June 20 to June 25 they will release the health directive guidelines that will go through the end of July. The Ag Society has a meeting on July 1 to make a decision. The Benkelman Lion’s Club is also hoping to have the carnival rides and games going, but they won’t make a decision until the SWNPHD and State release the health directive guidelines for July.

If the Ag Society activities and the carnival are able to go on, there will likely be social distancing guidelines to follow. Cook says the 4H events they are planning on the following:

• Physical distancing of families will be recommended.

• Hand sanitizer stations will be set up.

• Masks are recommend- ed in enclosed buildings or when in close contact with others.

• If you are feeling or be- lieve you have been exposed to COVID-19, please stay home.

• Families are expected to monitor their own physical distancing.

EXHIBIT HALL
• There will not be interview judging in the exhibit hall this year. The Extension staff made this decision to protect our judges and keep the numbers in the exhibit hall down.
• In place of interview judg- ing they suggest for 4-H’ers to write an essay telling the judge anything special about their project. Suggestions – What did you like or not like about the exhibit? How could you improve it? What would you change about it? Is there something memorable or special about why you made the exhibit?

LIVESTOCK
• The Extension office staff will do their best to provide distance between stalling of animals.
• They are working on a way to live stream the livestock shows and events.

More information on the Dundy County Fair will be provided when it becomes avail- able.
