2020 Dundy County Fair Underway, but No Carnival or Parade

Dundy County 4Hers kicked of the 2020 Dundy County Fair with shooting sports on Sat- urday, the fashion show on Sunday, and the companion animal shows on Monday.

This year’s fair is going to look a lot different as the COVID-19 pandemic health cri- sis has impacted every fair event in some way and forced some events to even cancel.

One of the most imporant as- pects of this year’s county fair is for everyone to do thier best to be safe. Dundy County Ag Society President Jared Stamm says they are encouraging people to please practice social distancing procedures as they enjoy the fair events and activ- ities that will take place this year.

In order to host the specific events and activites, each activ- ity had to be approved for op- poration by the Southwest Nebraska Public Health District.

At the present time, positive COVID-19 cases have spiked in the nine-county Southwest Public Health District over the last two weeks.

The good news is, as of presstime for this week’s paper on Tuesday at noon, there still were no confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Dundy County.

The Nebraska Health and Human Service’s COVID-19 Website does indicated that has has been a postiive COVID-19 case in the county. However, the Southwest Public Health Department says they know of NO case

in the county and be- lieve the posting is an error on the site.

Here is the lastest news on the 2020 Dundy County Fair events that are closed.

The Benkelman Lion’s Club Carnival Committee has an- nounced that there will be NO carnival this year. The South- west Nebraska Public Health Distrcit denied their applicai-

ton to open the carnvial this year.

In addition, the Dundy County Fair Board indicated that the annual fair parade that was scheduled for Saturday morning has also been can- celed.

The Dundy County Men’s Club has also canceled the Free Barbecue.

The St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Knights of Columbus will NOT open their BINGO tent this year.

The DCS school’s food booth will also not be open. However, the Methodist Church women’s group will be serve homemade ice creme from the food both lo- cation.

The Dundy County Men’s Club will have their consession stand open during the fair and the fair events. Please follow so- cial distancing guildines and be patient while standing in line.

Now, the good news about which events will take place.

The 4H and Open Class Ani- mal Shows and Exhibit hall will be open.

The Dundy County Ag Soci- ety events including the NSRA Rodeo on Wednesday evening, the Stock Car races on Thurs- day, the Enduro races on Fri- day, and the Little Texas concert on Saturday are planned to run as scheduled.

There will be no Beer Garden at the LIttle Texas Concert.

The Dundy County Fair Board wants every to enjoy the fair, but also be safe. The fair is implementing social distancing guidelines. “We can do this together! Stay safe and stay healthy.”
