“Ride for Reading” Poker Run Scheduled for September 12

Construction of Stratton’s new village office and community library building is progressing. The roof in shingled and the external walls are wrapped and windows are installed. Framing of interior walls has also been worked on. The facility is taking shape. In the meantime the community is working to rasie money to help cover the cost of the project. The Graff Charitable Foundation of McCook has offered a $10,000 Challenge Grant to the Stratton community to help in their fund raisinger efforts. In an effort to raise money to help meet the challege grant, Kevin League, Tara Hedrick, and Dorey Magley of Stratton organized a “Ride for Reading” Poker Run on Saturday, September 12. To kick off the donations to the event the Gary Thompson Insurance Agency of Trenton and McCook made a $250 donation on Tuesday to the Poker Run fundraiser. Sign-up for the Poker Run will take place from 9:30 to 10:00am on September 12. Kick stands will go up – 10 a.m. Cards will be drawn at Burger Baskets and More in Stratton, Franks Bar in Trenton, Old Sarge’s in McCook, the Re-Load Bar and Grill in Oberlin, Park Hill in Atwood, and the Western Keg in Benkelman. The cost to participate is $25 per hand if registered by September 1 or $30 per hand at the time of the event. The cost includes dun admission, meal, and prizes. Prizes will be awarded for First, Second and Third place. All proceeds benefit the Stratton Public Library building and all vehicles are welcome to particpate.
