Cluster at Cheyenne County Village identified in Cheyenne County, Kansas

Cheyenne County, Kansas–Cheyenne County Hospital/County Health Department is announcing a cluster of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Cheyenne County, Kansas.
The cluster involves 43 confirmed residents and employees of the Cheyenne County Village. We anticipate KDHE reporting Cheyenne County Hospital as an outbreak with 3 confirmed employees and further testing being conducted.

Though there have been deaths in Cheyenne County, these deaths have not been attributed to Covid. All death certificates are reviewed by KDHE who make an independent determination whether the death is Covid related or not based on cause of death. That person could have tested positive or negative.
Covid-19 test results are reported in the county of the permanent address of the individual. This also includes those that are hospitalized elsewhere.

The County Health Department is working to identify all close contacts of these individuals and those who were exposed are being contacted. We have provided instruction to these case contacts to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19, to include fever and respiratory symptoms. No further information about the patients will be released.
