Dundy County Commissioners Approve Resolution Stating Opposition to 30×30 Program

The Dundy County Commissioners have joined a growing list of Nebraska Counties formally opposing President Joseph Biden’s 30 x 30 program.  The commissioners voted 3-0 to approve the resolution during their regular meeting on Monday.  Dundy County’s resolution is based on similar resolutions passed by other Nebraska Counties, specifically Keith County.  The Dundy County resolution contains specific information on total acres in the county that are already tied to conservation measures. According to the resolution Dundy County contains approximately 588,800 acres. Within that the State of Nebraska Board of Education Lands and Funds own 41 parcels equaling 25,071 acres. The Nebraska Game and Parks owns about 216.45 acres along Rock Creek. The Upper Republican Natural Resources District owns about 6,480 acres. There are approximately 10,581 acres enrolled with the U.S.D.A in the Conservation Reserve Program and the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program. Finally, there are acres protected with perpetual conservation easements with about 86 acres of privately owned land contracted with Pheasants Forever. Dundy County Attorney Gary Burke said that Kathy Stahlecker did a lot of research work in compiling the land figures for Dundy County. President Biden’s Executive Order 14008 entitled, Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad aims at developing a program to conserve at least 30 percent of the lands and waters in the U.S. by 2030. Under the 30 x 30 program, some 680 million acres of land in the U.S. would be set aside and permanently preserved in its natural state. Nebraska Governor Pete Rickets has traveled the state in recent weeks speaking in opposition to what he as labeled the 30 x 30 Land Grab. He has encouraged counties to approve resolutions opposing Biden’s Plan. Burke told the commissioners that the resolution has no binding legal authority. “It does send a statement that we are opposed to any 30 x 30 grab.”
