Harold K. Potthoff passed away at St. – Elizabeth Hospital, Lincoln, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the age of 85 and three months. Harold was born December 8,1939, in Rural Hitchcock County, to William and Katherine (Fries) Potthoff. The family later moved to a farm halfway between Trenton and Stratton where Harold lived the remainder of his life- Harold attended, and graduated from, Trenton Schools. He continued his education with an A.A. from McCook Junior College, a B.S. from Kearney State College and a M.A. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Harold taught business at Dundy County High and then history and math and coached Jr. High athletics at Trenton Schools until he began full-time farming and ranching. On August 20, 1968, Harold was united in marriage to Pamela Burks and they farmed together until his death. Down through the years their family increased by four children, twenty-two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and two more are on their way. Harold had a passion for history. He served on the Hitchcock County Historical Society Board and was one of the founders of the Western Cattle Trail Association of Nebraska working to preserve the history of the Trail. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joyce Williamson and husband Loren, brother Marvin Potthoff and wife Florence; baby sister, and mother and father in-law. Those left behind are his wife, Pamela; his children: Jennifer Jones (John Steen), Paula (Chris) Sandberg, Jon Potthoff and Angela (Joel) Barrere; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother: Don (Betty) Potthoff. A Celebration of Life will be held March 22 at the Church of God Family Life Center in Trenton. A meal for friends and family will begin at 11:30 pm CT. A service of life will follow at 1:00 pm CT.
