The Board of Education of the Hitchcock County Schools met March 10, 2025 at 7:00pm at the Hitchcock County Jr/Sr High School. Present were board members Scott, Melchert, Cook, Hagan, Marks, and Webb.
President Scott called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Notice of the board’s adherence to the Nebraska Open Meeting Law posted on the north wall of the meeting room was given. The meeting was properly advertised in the Scoop Media News on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Also present were Assistant Principal/ Counselor McCarter, Principal Tines, C. Rippen, and C. Hrnchir.
Moved by Hagan; seconded by Marks to approve the March 2025 Regular Meeting Agenda as presented. Aye votes Hagan, Webb, Marks, Cook, Melchert, and Scott. Nay votes none.
President Scott recognized and welcomed visitors. There were no comments.
Moved by Cook; seconded by Hagan to approve the consent agenda as presented. Aye votes by Webb, Marks, Cook, Melchert, Scott, and Hagan; nay votes none. The consent agenda consisted of the following items: (1) Minutes of the February 2025 regular board meeting. (2) The Activity Fund. (3) The bill roster with general fund bills totaling $423,703.35 and lunch fund bills totaling $22,140.05. (4) Other funds.

Moved by Marks; seconded by Webb to accept the resignation of Caden Houghtelling. Aye votes Cook, Melchert, Scott, Hagan, Webb and Marks; nay votes none.
Moved by Cook; seconded by Webb to hire Lesa Tines as a teacher for the 2025-2026 school year and to pay a one-time signing bonus of $6,000.00. Aye votes by Melchert, Scott, Hagan, Webb, Marks, and Cook; nay votes none.
Moved by Cook; seconded by Hagan to hire Daria Dart as a teacher for the 2025-2026 school year and to pay a one-time signing bonus of $6,000.00. Aye votes by Scott, Hagan, Webb, Marks, Cook and Melchert; nay votes none.
Moved by Webb; seconded by Cook to hire Melissa Duvel as a teacher for the 2025-2026 school year and to pay a one-time signing bonus of $6,000.00. Aye votes by Scott, Hagan, Webb, Marks, Cook and Melchert; nay votes none.
Moved by Hagan; seconded by Webb to move into executive session at 7:07 p.m.to discuss classified wages for the 2025-2026 school year. Aye votes by Webb, Marks, Cook, Melchert, Scott and Hagan; nay votes none.
Moved by Hagan; seconded by Marks to move out of executive session at 7:38 p.m. Aye votes Marks, Cook, Melchert, Scott, Hagan and Webb; nay votes none.
Moved by Scott; seconded by Cook to increase the 2025-2026 classified wages up to $1 with the exception of Bookkeeper wage to be $25 per hour, Daycare Supervisor to be $20.00 per hour, and to raise the wage for Substitute teachers to $160.00 per day. Aye votes Cook, Melchert, Scott, Hagan, Webb, and Marks; nay votes none.
Mr. Sattler discussed the ongoing personnel needs for the 2025-2026 school year. No further action was taken.
Committee Reports as follows: President Scott noted that no committee meetings were held to report.
Principal Tines’ report as follows: (1) 02/14 – Valen-TINES day activities. (2) 02/18 – Lydia Barth received the Because of You award lunch. (3) 02/26 – Elementary Quiz Bowl in Bartley. (4) 02/28 – Monthly PBIS Pep Rally. (5) 02/24 – 02/28 – Read Across America Week (6) 03/03 – 03/07 – Spring Break
Assistant Principal/School Counselor McCarter’s report as follows: (1) 02/10 – Mrs. Burnside took her choir to RPAC Choir at Dundy County-Stratton. (2) 02/12 – District FFA at Curtis. (3) 02/13 – Inter-High Day results: Kade Thiessen – Advanced Math – 4th place; John Block – Algebra I – 2nd place; Connor Latta – Algebra II – 1st place; Dylan Kollmorgen – Biology – 3rd place; Raegan Hagan – English Composition – 4th place; Jakob Wagner and Marcus Owens – STEM/Engineering – 7th place. (4) FFA Labor Auction. (5) 02/22 – Speech team attended the Blue and Gold Meet at North Platte. Lailah Swanson and Karsyn Kolbet placed 5th. (6) 02/25 – Girls and Boys State Interviews – Juniors to interview were 1 girl and 7 boys. (7) 02/26 Career Discovery Day at Community Hospital – 17 HCHS students attended. The event coordinator complimented our Hitchcock County students to Ms. McCarter for their appearance and positive participation at the event.
Superintendent Sattler’s report as follows: (1) Shared on how our PBIS program has been a positive selling point during the interview process with prospective staff. (2) NASB Virtual Workshop – New Board Members invited to attend. (3) 03/25 – Hosting RPAC Band – 7pm Concert. Board members and public are invited to attend. (4) 04/05 – Prom.
President Scott adjourned the meeting at 7:49pm. The next board meeting will be held April 14, 2025 at 7:00 PM. The agenda kept continuously current is available to the public for items of an emergency nature. The meeting is open to the public. Craig Scott – President. Larry Marks – Secretary
