TRENTON, NEBRASKA – APRIL 7TH, 2025
A meeting of the County Board of Commissioners of Hitchcock County, Nebraska was held at the Hitchcock County Courthouse Commissioner’s Room, 229 East D Street, Trenton, Nebraska on Monday the 7th day of April 2025 commencing at 9:00 o’clock a.m. Present were Chair Paul Nichols, Commissioners Christopher Baker and Ron Wertz and County Clerk Margaret Pollmann. Notice of the meeting was given in advance thereof by publication on April 3rd, 2025 in Scoop Media News, the designated method for giving notice. Board agendas are posted on the County’s website www.hitchcockcounty.ne.gov. Notice of the meeting was given to the Chair and all members of the Board. All proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public. The Open Meetings Act was available for review and the Chair indicated the location of such a copy in the room where the meeting was being held. Also present is Bill Roddy.
Chair Nichols called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
Member Wertz moved to approve the consent agenda consisting of the following items:
Approval of the April 7th, 2025 agenda and approval of the March 17th, 2025 meeting minutes. Member Nichols seconded the motion and after consideration the following members voted in favor of said motion: Nichols, Baker, and Wertz. Motion carried.

Member Baker moved to enter into a two (2) year Public Defender Renewal Agreement expiring on June 1, 2027 by and between the County and Ryan R. Wilcox in the amount of $48,000.00 annually and to direct Chair to execute the same. Member Nichols seconded the motion and after consideration the following members voted in favor of the motion. Wertz, Baker and Nichols. Motion carried.
Member Wertz moved to direct Chair to execute the Hitch and Hay Public Transit intention of continued financial support for budget years 2026 and 2027. Member Nichols seconded the motion and after consideration the following members voted in favor of the motion. Nichols, Baker and Wertz. Motion carried.
Weed Superintendent Mike Erickson advised as to spring weed control programs. As Zoning Administrator, Mr. Erickson advised as to a pending feed lot conditional use.
Member Wertz moved to appoint Valerie Paschall and Shaila Latta to the four (4) year terms on the Hitchcock County Visitors Committee with said terms expiring April 1, 2029. Member Baker seconded the motion and after consideration the following members voted in favor of the motion. Wertz, Nichols and Baker. Motion carried.
Permissive exemptions for tax year 2025 were reviewed.
County Attorney D. Eugene Garner joined the meeting and advised as to the status of the conditional use application of MB Club LLC d/b/a MB Computing.
At 11:08 a.m. attorney Roger Benjamin and Dave Koetter joined the meeting. Attorney Garner advised as to Hitchcock County District Court Case CI 25-1 and as to why this item was placed on the agenda. Mr. Benjamin advised as to his research relating to said case.
Pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. §47-109 the Hitchcock County jail facility was visited.
Member Baker moved to adjourn at 11:39 a.m. and to meet for the next regular meeting on Monday, April 21st, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. Member Wertz seconded the motion and the roll was called with the following members voting in favor of said motion: Nichols, Baker, and Wertz.
