Notice of the Regular Board Meeting was posted at the Village Office, Community First Bank, and the Post Office on January 5, 2026.
The Board of Trustees Meeting of the Village of Trenton was called to order on Tuesday, January 13th, 2026, at 5:30 PM, in the Village Office, with the following members present: BOARD MEMBER PRESENT: Hodges, McDonald, Eldridge, Drain, Swanson. BOARD MEMBER ABSENT: NONE. STAFF PRESENT: Mackley, Aneas, Upton.
Chairman McDonald opened the Regular Meeting at 5:30 PM and made the Open Meetings Act announcement, stating that the poster is on the wall for all to view. Roll Call – Hodges, Eldridge, Swanson, Drain, McDonald
Citizen Forum- none.
Motion Hodges to approve the agenda for the January 13, 2026, Regular Board of Trustees Meeting with moving agenda items 9 following item 5, seconded by Eldridge. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Motion Eldridge to approve the December 9, 2025, Regular Meeting minutes, seconded by Swanson. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Motion Swanson to approve December Treasurers Report, seconded by Drain. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Reports of Officers, Board Committees- Clerk will schedule JEO to come look at the pool.
Library- Upton submitted their Strategic Plan that must be done every five (5) years for their accreditation. Their goals are to host a spring clean up with the HS again, start a book delivery program, and 1,000 books for elementary students. They are interested in taking over the Christmas in the square, will talk to those who set it up in the past.
Schroeder wants to set hearing for nuisance properties next month, Clerk will send notices and get updated pictures. Finalizing contract for sewer lagoon dumping. Schroeder recommended getting an example from another town as well.
Maintenance Report: Probe needs replaced at the pump station, scheduling with Atlas. Discussion had on after-hour fee for reconnects, hours 8-5 for maintenance. After 5 pm would be after hours. Update on lead service line replacement needs done by 2037 there are loans available to start but the Board would like more information from the state on our next steps. Clerk will reach out to M & A as well. Canceling water operators training scheduled for February 3-5. Electric gloves did arrive, Aneas will set up a meeting with SWPPD. Received bids for insulating the trash truck barn, Board would like to wait for next budget year. Clerk to schedule a time with maintenance to street sweep East C street. Office will call those residents to move vehicles on scheduled day. Advertising for Superintendent position expand reach. One animal complaint office will contact owner.
Village Clerk: Meter readings will be January 20-22. Clerk will be gone from January 30 to February 4th. Mackley presented a proposal from TextMyGov.
Fire Report: Trenton Rural Fire protection is due.
Unfinished Business: Discussion had on trash truck driver had. One applicant would like to interview, Eldridge will reach out to him. D. Anderson is also working on attaining his CDL and just got his learners permit. Motion Hodges to hire upon decision of hiring committee, seconded by Eldridge. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
New Business: Discussion had on past meeting where Tantalus recommended increasing electric meter fee by a dollar. Clerk will find those minutes and draft a resolution for next meeting.
Motion Hodges pay pre-paid rate for Pankonin services of spraying at the park of $3,829.45, seconded by Swanson. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Motion Hodges to have Chairman sign Program Income Report for CDBG, seconded by Swanson. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Discussion had on covering Carfield’s hotel for the day before the utility conference last week. Motion denied.
Discussion had on cameras at the dump and lagoon. Clerk will further look into cellular data ones.
Discussion had on bid’s for trash truck barn, waiting until next budget.
Discussion had on bid for fixing the trash truck barn doors. Board of Trustees would like to get a quote form Vap Construction. Clerk will call and schedule with them.
Motion Hodges to approve Sargent’s bid $4,165.41, seconded by Swanson. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Motion Hodges to pay half of fire protection, seconded by Drain. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Motion Drain to approve building permit for Grimes, seconded by Eldridge. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Motion by Eldridge to donate $5,000 to ambulance from Keno funds, seconded by Swanson. Ayes: 3. Abstain: 2. Motion carried.
Motion by Hodges to get a bid from O’Brien Electric for the electric pole by the baseball field seconded by Swanson. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Motion by Hodges to get a bid from O’Brien Electric for the lights in the office, seconded by Swanson. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Discussion had on animal complaint. Office will contact owner.
Motion Eldridge to let the Library order an artificial Christmas tree, seconded by Swanson. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Motion by Drain to raise D. Anderson wage to $20/hour, seconded by Eldridge. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Motion Drain to approve December 2025 claims with changing line 13 typo, seconded by Hodges. Ayes: 5. Motion carried.
Discussion for next agenda, 30% property coverage, nuisance properties, water conference in March, vacate planning commission spot, clerk school week schedule.
Motion Drain to adjourn at 7:32 PM seconded by Eldridge. Ayes: 5. Motion carried
