HITCHCOCK COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS TRENTON, NEBRASKA JUNE 15, 2026
A meeting of the County Board of Commissioners of Hitchcock County, Nebraska was held at the Hitchcock County Courthouse Commissioner’s Room, 229 East D Street, Trenton, Nebraska on Monday the 15th day of June 2026 commencing at 9:00 o’clock a.m. Present were Chair Paul Nichols, Vice Chair Ron Wertz, Member Christopher Baker and County Clerk Margaret Pollmann. Notice of the meeting was given in advance thereof by publication on June 11th, 2026 in Scoop Media News, the designated method for giving notice. Board agendas are posted on the County’s website www.hitchcockcounty.ne.gov. Notice of the meeting was given to the Chair and all members of the Board. All proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the convened meeting was open to the attendance of the public. The Open Meetings Act was available for review and Chair indicated the location of such copy in the room where the meeting was being held. Also present Bill Roddy. Chair Nichols opened the meeting at 9:00 a.m. Member Wertz moved to approve the consent agenda consisting of approval of the June 15th, 2026 agenda and approval of the June 1st, 2026 meeting minutes. Member Baker seconded the motion and after consideration a roll call vote was had as follows: Baker, Yes; Nichols, Yes; Wertz, Yes. Motion carried. Member Nichols offered Resolution #26-12 authorizing the Hitchcock County Jail budget to increase its’ budget authority by $2,057.05 and that said authority shall be transferred from the County Clerk’s budget and moved for its’ adoption. Member Wertz seconded the motion and after consideration the roll was called thereupon as follows: Wertz, Yes; Nichols, Yes; Baker, Yes. Said resolution having been consented to by a majority of all members elected to said County Board, was by the Chair declared passed and adopted. A true, correct and complete copy of said resolution is on file in the office of the County Clerk and on the County’s website www.hitchcockcounty.ne.gov. Attorney D. Eugene Garner and Sheriff Ryan King joined the meeting. Member Baker moved to approve the following claims. Member Nichols seconded the motion and after consideration, a roll call vote was had as follows: Wertz, Yes; Baker, Yes; Nichols, Yes. Motion carried.

Sheriff Ryan King discussed inmate medical insurance, advised as to the recent K-9 purchase, and department staffing issues. Member Baker moved to direct Chair to execute the King Risk Partners agreement for enrollment in a catastrophic inmate medical insurance program. Member Wertz seconded the motion and after consideration a roll call vote was had as follows. Wertz, Yes; Baker, Yes; Nichols, Yes. Motion carried.
Roger Reynolds with Doyle Land Services Inc. advised as to an upcoming Tall Grass Energy pipeline project within the County. Zoning Administrator Mike Erickson was also present.
Edward Dunn, Executive Director of West Central Nebraska Development District (WCNDD) met with the Board regarding the zoning comprehensive plan update grant project. Zoning Administrator Mike Erickson was also present. Attorney Garner inquired as to whether or not an update to zoning regulations was included in WCNDD proposal for professional services. Mr. Dunn advised that the comprehensive plan update implies/includes zoning regulation updates, they go “hand in hand”.
The Professional Service Agreement will be amended to specifically include updates to the County’s zoning regulations in the scope of work to be provided by WCNDD. Motion by Wertz to approve and direct Chair to sign the West Central Nebraska Development District, Professional Services Agreement with the addition in the scope of work to include revising/updating Hitchcock County zoning regulations. Member Baker seconded the motion and after consideration a roll call vote was had as follows: Nichols, Yes; Wertz, Yes; Baker, Yes. Motion carried.
Weed Superintendent Mike Erickson advised as concerns regarding non-compliance with noxious weeds control. Gregg O’Brien with Nebraska Machinery met with the Board regarding equipment needs.
